WELCOME TO THE ROBOTIC'S TEAM HOMEPAGE!
This year the John Bowne Robotics team is going to enter the FIRST Robotics Competition. What is the FIRST Robotics Competition? The FIRST Robotics Competition is an international high school robotics competition that is organized by FIRST. FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology". Schools all over the country are involved in this competition and this year the John Bowne Robotics team are ready to come home with the trophy.
The John Bowne Robotics Team consist around 25 team members with ages running from 13 to 17 and all 4 grade levels (Freshmen through Seniors). The large body of Freshmen and Sophomores serves as a pillar for future bright minds with an early high school engineering experience. We hope and justifiably presuppose that participation in FIRST will further augment performance in math and science at John Bowne among all involved students as well as trickle into the student body in general as they watch our team grow and compete.
Participation in FIRST will build upon John Bowne’s efforts to improve its STEM opportunities in the education of its students. Although, among its several subdivisions, John Bowne houses a collaborative effort between Doshi Diagnostics and the high school for an accelerated science research program. However, those students signing on as interested in Robotics this year are not solely limited to the Doshi program population. Students from all “houses” in the school have come on board.
Collegial structuring of all activities in collaborative spirit has been key to all bar raising that has happened at John Bowne. Continuing in this tradition, our faculty team for the Robotics program includes: 1 Advisor (teacher of Regents and AP Physics), the Assistant Principal of Science, the Principal and Assistant Principal of Organization, our Head of Technical Support, one of our art teachers, our computer science teacher and the Head Custodian. As stated previously, 48 students that have signed for their interest in being part, in some way, of Robotics at our school. We envision club activities to include all interested. We are arranging the club into a core team of 20 directly involved with tooling the robot for the FIRST competition, with other club members involved in other aspects of the FRC program: fund-raising, animation, website development, business, etc. Our pool of student talents, interests, and time-availabilities seem to be working out without conflict which students will be involved in these particular aspects (roles will change and mature with each passing year of involvement).
